Yuan Yunbin and his team was awarded the first prize in the progress of surveying and mapping TEXT SIZE:A A A

In November 5, 2008, the fourth conference of the Awards Committee of Chinese Surveying and Mapping Institute of Science and Technology were hold in Guilin, Guangxi province. It published all awards in the year of 2008. Researcher Yuan Yunbin from the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics and his team was awarded the first prize due to the development and research of the correction of Ionospheric delay in GPS. The award of the progress in surveying and mapping is presented to the people that has significant contribution for the research, innovation and development in the science of surveying and mapping. It comprises in six first prize, sixteen second prize and forty-nine third prize.

Ionospheric delay may be the most difficult and the most serious sources of error in GPS measurements. Whether the ionospheric effects in GPS signals can be effectively monitored and revised is one of the most critical technical problems, which play an effective role in the modern GPS geodetic applications such as high-precision study. Based on  the forefront of the fields on geodesy, engineering, space technology and interdisciplinary research, in view of major national strategic needs, this Research Group insists on effectively combination of the innovation of theoretical approaches and the application of technology integration; they made great efforts and gained great Research achievement in the Theory and Method of the GNSS ionospheric corrections. Mainly based on the research of theories, models and methods on Multi-scale quasi-static and dynamic monitoring and precisely determination of GPS local / regional / global ionospheric TEC,this Research Group expands the theory and methods on GPS-based ionospheric electron density tomography inversion, and sets up series of more independent sound theory and method system based on GPS monitoring and the amendments, which contains novel research ideas and distinct application features. Combined the above theories and methods with a wealth of ground-based and appropriate space-based GPS data, they studied the fine changes in the characteristics of Ionosphere TEC / electron density in China region, plays a pioneering role in applied researches such as precision orbit determination of  manned space flight launched  and a new generation of satellite navigation system construction, putted forward a series of scientific and applicable technical solutions and methods with Chinese characteristics , and developed applicating software system. Overall study reached the international advanced level, among which Part of the results reached the leading level in the monitoring of ionospheric disturbances, Ionospheric corrections and large-scale precision analog of ionospheric effects, the correction model of the ionosphere in new satellite navigation and some other results of the research.

This research brings the step-research in geodesy and other related disciplines. It impulses the development and research of the geodesy and other related disciplines, and makes our international status in science promoted. The result has been applied in the engineering of manned space flight, satellite navigation system and so on. It is the basement that improves the functions of the GPS in geodesy, manned space flight environmental  monitoring and so on.
