Our excellent alumni LUO Jun has been elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. This is the third academician who was graduated from WHIGG after Xu Houze and Yang Yuanxi academician.
Luo Jun obtained his doctorate degree in the solid earth geophysics supervised by the renowned scientist Xu Houze in 1999. He had a lot of outstanding achievement during his PhD course, such as Special Award of CAS President Scholarship and the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award. Professor Luo is the vice chairman of Academic Committee of HuaZhong University of Science and Technology. He is also the dean of School of Physics and the director of the basic physical quantity measurement laboratory.
The thematic briefing of Chinese Academy of Sciences shows that students from WHIGG, obtained all "National Excellent PhD thesis" awards on both geophysics and geodesy from 1999 to 2008.
