International Polar Year (IPY) 2012 Conference has been held on April 23 - 27 in Montreal, Canada. The IPY 2012 Conference draws international attention to the Polar Regions, global change, and related environmental, social and economic issues. From Knowledge to Action brings together over 2,000 Arctic and Antarctic researchers, policy- and decision-makers, and a broad range of interested parties from academia, industry, non-government, education and circumpolar communities including indigenous peoples.
Dr. Hu Xiaogang and Dr. Hao Xiaoguang from WHIGG have attended the conference. As the only Asian oral presenter in "Earth Structure and Geodynamics at the Poles" session, Dr. Hu made a presentation titled "The signal of azimuthal anisotropy in the coupling of normal modes: observations from the Antarctica".
Since 1985, researchers of WHIGG have made systematic observations of earth tides at the Changcheng Ststion and Zhongshan Station on Antarctica. WHIGG has been involved in many Chinese polar geophysical research projects.
