At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Earth’s Dynamics, Prof. C.K. Shum from Ohio State University of USA visited WHIGG on June 25, 2012.
Prof. Shum delivered a scientific speech titled:” Ice-Sheet and Mountain Glaciers Mass Balance Estimates”. He presented the latest research progress report on mass balance estimates in Antarctic ice-sheet, Greenland ice-sheet, Asia high-mountain glaciers, Alaska glaciers and Patagonia glaciers, measured by satellite altimetry and GRACE.
Prof. Shum is the distinguished scholar of OSU and joins the IGG as the selected candidate of short-term 1000 plan of China. He focuses on the research relating to the accurate measurements of present-day sea-level rise and to the improved understanding of the geophysical causes of its rise, including anthropogenic climate-change. He also work on research in satellite geodesy, temporal gravity field and tide modeling, satellite oceanography, hydrology and geodynamics, ice mass balance, precision satellite orbit determination, GNSS meteorology, planetary geodesy, and space physics.
