On the 17th International Earth Tide Conference held in Warsaw on April, Academician Houtze Hsu came from Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics Chinese Academy of Science was awarded the Earth Tides Commission Medal, Paul Melchior Medal, which is the top medal in the field of Earth Tides, in recognition of his outstanding service and leadership in Geodesy and Earth Tides.
The Paul Melchior Medal was name after the famous international geophysicist Paul Melchior, it was firstly set up on 2000 and awarded to international scientists making outstanding contribution to the field of Earth Tides and Geodynamics.
Academician Houtze Hsu had begun research in the field of Earth Tides since 1972, collaborated with Belgium colleagues since 1978. In additional, he organized the first research and study of gravity tides profile in China, and introducing the high accuracy gravity tides observation instruments, he initiated the research of earth tides in China and also collaborated widely with international colleagues. Under the direct of Academician Hsu, the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics has become an international famous research center of Geodesy and Earth Tides.
