On November 28, leading experts from Ecology and Environment Monitoring System of Three Gorges Project went to Honghu Xiaogang groundwater monitoring key station ( Xiaogang wetland ecological experiment station of IGG) to inspect the site work, led by inspector Zhou Wei from Three Gorges Reservoir Management Division of the State Council.

Accompanied by the deputy Party secretary Feng Can, the deputy director of IGG and relevant personnel, the inspection team carefully checked the maintenance and operation situation of facilities about the groundwater monitoring sites, meteorological observations sites, soil fertility positioning experimental sites and solute transport field test sites and then inquired the utility of the facilities and the difficulties. They carefully examined the work sites of artificial and automatic groundwater monitoring. Then the researchers demonstrated the groundwater sampling and measuring of the water quality indicators by HACH-DR2800. Meanwhile, the team viewed the process of gley soil profile division, the soil sampling and measuring of redox potential. Particularly, they asked for the mechanism and extent of soil gleization influenced by the Three Gorges Project and concerned about the living and working conditions of the staffs in the station.

Since 1998, as one of the key stations in the Ecology and Environment Monitoring System of Three Gorges Project, Honghu Xiaogang groundwater monitoring key station have gradually built up the monitoring experiments facilities for groundwater monitoring sites, meteorological observations sites, soil fertility positioning experimental sites and solute transport field test sites.etc. As a field work platform for the key Laboratory for Environment and Disaster Monitoring and Evaluation of Hubei, it plays an important role for completing related research, especially the tasks of the Ecology and Environment Monitoring System of  Three Gorges Project. This on-site inspection will be conducive to a comprehensive understanding of facilities status and promoting the capacity building of monitoring systems, particularly it will benefit the implementation of facilities upgrading, automatic and on-line monitoring.
