Progress in Geodesy Research Symposium Held in IGG TEXT SIZE:A A A

To summarize and review research progress and future direction of recent development within the field of international geodesic research, the Progress in Geodesy Research Symposium and the 17th Gravity, Solids Tidal and Gravity Instruments Symposium was held on April 22 to 23. It was sponsored by the Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Geodynamics, Hua Zhong University of Science and Technology, the thematic groups of gravity and solids tide, Chinese Geophysical Society gravity. The meeting attracted widespread attention at home and abroad in geodetic and geophysical field, and there are more than three hundred of domestic and foreign representatives participating this symposium, including 28 academicians from Germany, the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Japan , Luxembourg and other countries and 24 experts from China, Hong Kong and China Taiwan and other regions as well.
The themes of the meetings were space geodesy, gravity, earthquake geodesy and the field related to the system and theoretical progress of geodetic techniques .The experts have extensive and in-depth discussions on the core-mantle coupled boundary, global change, earthquakes and the geodynamic evolution and so on. German GFZ Geoscience Centre, Faculty Director, Professor H.Schuh made a reporting titled “Space Geodesy at GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences “, which introduced the technological applications of Earth deformation, global environmental change, seismic source nature and disaster assessment in space geodesy, satellite gravity, GPS in Germany geoscience center and described the agency's future development plans. Meanwhile, on behalf of GFZ German Geoscience Centre, Professor H. Schuh and the State Key Laboratory of Geodynamics made carefully talks and signed a cooperation plan. Subsequently,  Professor Crossley of Saint Louis University , Professor Pagiatakis of York University, Canada, Professor Jentszsch of Jena University in Germany, Professor Hinderer of Strasbourg University, France, Professor Francis of Luxembourg University, Professor Fukuda of Kyoto University, Professor Zhang cocoa of Exeter University, Professor Lin Hui of Chinese Hong Kong University , Professor Dr. Zhao Feng of Chinese Academy of Einstein, Professor Shen Si Jun of Ohio State University, USA, and  Professor Wang Rongjiang of Germany Earth Sciences did some wonderful academic reports. Academicians such as Yao Zhenxing, Luo Jun, Zhang Zhen and Li Jiancheng  also made keynote speeches on respectively hotspot issues and showcase the latest achievements of research on source process in seismic intensity, precision gravity measurements, Plateau geodynamics and geoid.
During the conference, the scholars’ reports attracted widespread concern. Young scholars and graduate students from Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, and many other universities and institutes attended the report, and had a lively discussion with the experts and scholars to exchange the knowledge of the geodesy research progress and to strengthen  the  understanding and application of the method of Geodesy. The conference strongly enhanced the domestic and international high-level contacts of the Institute of the Geodesy and Geophysics, State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Geodynamics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and this symposium would play an important role in enhancing the improvement of the influence level in these above mentioned aspects of research.
