Invited by State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Earth’s Dynamics (SKLGED), researcher Zhao Lianfeng from Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences visited Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics(IGG) and gave an academic report in title “Construction of Q model for crust mantle seismic wave in Tethys orogenic belt” on June 20.
The report firstly introduced the tectonic setting and research background of the Tethys orogenic belt, and then he focused on the method of inversion of the crust and upper mantle Q by using Lg wave and Pn wave. He presented the results of Q values of the upper mantle in northeastern China, and compared the results of Lg wave and Pn wave on the Q value of the crust and upper mantle in the Tethys orogenic belt. It was found that the distribution of the lower Q region of the crust and upper mantle is consistent, which may be related to the thermal flux distribution of the upper mantle caused by orogeny. The audiences had a deep discussion with researcher Zhao at the end of the report.
Researcher Zhao received his Ph.D. degree from Chengdu University of Technology in 2003 and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is mainly engaged in seismic wave attenuation and deep imaging, seismological monitoring and research of underground nuclear test.
