Invited by State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Earth’s Dynamics (SKLGED), space physicist Li Luoquan academician from Academia Sinica, Taiwan visited Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics(IGG) and gave an academic report on title “Space Science and Forecast of Weather, Space Weather and Earthquake” on July 7.
The report firstly introduced knowledge of space weather and meteorology, explaining how to improve the effectiveness and scientific application of space weather, weather and earthquake prediction operations in research. Then he expound the history of space exploration and revealed the causes and numerical simulations of the prominence, corona, solar wind and aurora. He showed the blue jet, high-level atmospheric lightning and other natural phenomena by satellites and other observations and expound its causes. The report discussed the development of Taiwan's meteorological satellite and its role in regional weather forecasting and disaster relief. The research results showed that the observation of earthquake precursors could explain some important changes, such as groundwater, radon and crustal deformation. It can provide crucial clues for earthquake prediction by dense instrument observation.
Li Luoquan academician is mainly engaged in space science and plasma physics. In recent years, he has made a number of research results, including: the interstellar medium turbulence spectrum, auroral area of the millimeter wave radiation cyclone pulse theory, the formation mechanism of prominence, etc. He also received a number of honors, including the Fulbright Award for outstanding scholars and other awards.
