At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Geodesy and Earth’s Dynamics, Dr. Feng Guangcai from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) visited WHIGG on Nov. 6th, 2012.
Dr. Feng delivered a scientific speech titled:” The ionospheric disturbances and coseismic deformation associated with 2008 Wenchuan earthquake”. SUN gave a detailed introduction about the ionospheric effects in InSAR deformation monitoring. In his study, he finds that the ionospheric total electron content (TEC) in the area affected by the earthquake varied significantly both in space and in time over a period of about two months starting tens of days before the earthquake. He also finds that there is a small amount of thrust-slip on the parallel and shallower dipping Pengguan fault to the Beichuan.
Director of SKLGED, Dr. Ni Sidao, presided the lecture. Dr. Feng discussed with IGG researchers on current hot issues on InSAR research.
