Professor Thorne Lay from University of California visited IGG TEXT SIZE:A A A

Invited by State Key Laboratory of Laboratory of Geodesy and Earth`s Dynamics (SKLGED), professor Thorne Lay, a famous seismologist and United States National Academy of Sciences from University of California , USA visited Institute of Geodesy and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGG, CAS). He gave an lecture on Depth Variations in Large Megathrust Earthquake Rupture Processes. The meeting was held by researcher Chu Risheng, present at the meeting were about 20 researchers and students.

Professor Thorne Lay pointed out that 18 earthquakes large the Ms8.0 occurred from 2004 to 2014 which is 2.65 times as the frequency of large earthquake occurred from 1900 to 2004. A series of observations such as the international seismic network, GPS network, tsunami observation instrument and satellite image measurement developed rapidly during last decades, providing unprecedented information for studying the rupture process of large earthquake.

After the meeting, professor had a deep discussion with related researchers in IGG.
