SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
　 To monitor and to evaluate environment and natural hazards, and evolution and restoration of wetland
ecosystem of the middle reaches of Yangtze River by using the “3S”（GIS，GPS, and RS）and field
methods. Research foci are on monitoring and evaluating the floods, droughts, geologic and geomorphic
hazards, environmental changes, river-lake and wetland ecosystem. End results of scientific research and
information generated are provided for society and decision makers in developing strategy on economic growth,
sustainable development, and environmental conservation in Hubei Province.
Major Research Areas:
　 Environmental monitoring and evaluation of floods and droughts, geologic and geomorphic hazards, and
other natural hazards;
　 Wetland protection, utilization, and restoration of wetland ecosystem;
　 Long term impacts of large hydro projects on river-lake and wetland
